Johannes works as a tailor and with his label Hansinger, he dresses artists such as dancers and drag performers. He has worked in many different fields until he realized that the most important thing for him is to express himself creatively by tailoring. He started his own business in 2011: “Only in working as a freelancer could I live out my creativity. Every piece of clothing is different and new. I’m more involved in the projects and I can interact with artists by combining my art with theirs. This results in something new that both artists put their heart and soul into.” The LGBTQIA+ community is really important for his work. Johannes loves it when drag artists bring his fashion to life on stage. “Colorful, creative, adaptable – that's all part of it for me now and I wouldn't want to miss that.”

For Johannes, being queer means just being yourself, without having to think too much about how others think about you. “Always questioning what you do. Why is that something we do? What direction do we want to take in life? Don’t ever stop trying new things. Don’t stop learning and eventually, you’ll become the best version of yourself.” Being queer is very important to Johannes’ work. “If I wasn't who I am, my art wouldn't look the way it does. There's a piece of me in every outfit I've ever made. They're my children, and there's both a part of my mind and the artist's mind in them.”

Johannes was born in Munich. He loves his city. “I think there's been a lot of creative stuff going on in the last few years. When I think about when I was younger – sure there were more clubs, but now the queer community is more visible. I like how Munich is developing.” With his work, Johannes also wants to provide more visibility and support queer artists. He has used the pandemic for himself to try new things and to showcase himself. “My partner and I have always challenged ourselves to get out of a rut and stay creative. It was important to me to keep creating new content without having to be under a lot of pressure.”

For the future, Johannes would like to see more queer acceptance in society. He wants to create many beautiful outfits, make the world more colorful and beautiful and thus show: “We exist and we do great work. We’re a big part of society, even if people don't see it that way, but without the queer community there’d be less creativity in the world.”
